Essentials of Retinal Imaging – January 30, 2016
In January 2016, three of our ophthalmic photographers attended “Essentials of Ophthalmic Retinal Imaging”, a program to take a deeper look into the retinal photography they do every day. Mokie Visser, Osmaida Balbuena and Adrian Guardado took a drive down to Sacramento, California to attend the class at The UC Davis Department of Ophthalmology.
Two of the veterans in the business, Denise Barsness and Mark Maio taught the subjects including Fundamentals of Fundus and Fluorescein Angiography, Anatomical Landmarks and Descriptive Interpretation of Imaging, and Patient Management.
In the evening after the class, the three were lucky to run into Denise and Mark at the Courtyard Sacramento Midtown hotel restaurant where they were staying. They chatted with them after dinner for a while about their careers, and Denise and Mark told funny stories about the business.
Osmaida really enjoyed learning about the pathology in the eye that she sees every day with her patients. All three also learned the language used to describe fluorescein angiogram photos. This will be helpful with communicating with the doctors.
