Clinical Trial for Macular Degeneration

by John Hyatt, M.D., Retinal Specialist and Surgeon, Retina & Vitreous Center

The Retina and Vitreous Center of Southern Oregon is now taking part in an exciting clinical trial to investigate the effectiveness of a new medication for the dry form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).  In recent years, huge advancements have been made in the related wet form of AMD, but effective treatments for the more common dry form have been elusive.  The Retina and Vitreous Center is enrolling patients for the SAGA study sponsored by Alkeus,  a US-based pharmaceutical company.  The study utilizes a slightly modified version of vitamin A taken once daily in pill form for two years to minimize progression of advanced dry AMD.  If interested, please contact our office for more information.  (541) 488-3192
