Four of our newest technicians and one biller accompanied Dr. Rodden on the trip to attend the Academy of Ophthalmology conference of November 2015 in Las Vegas.
Technicians Nitia, Destiny, Jermanie, Becca and biller Jeanna all arrived in Las Vegas for continuing education.
The doctors’ conference was at the Venetian, and technicians’ classes were given at Planet Hollywood. Our staff stayed at the lovely Paris Hotel next door.
A lot of the focus this year was on EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and ICD 10, a new system of billing codes.
The technicians took classes on the disease process, furthering their knowledge of the retina diseases that are most commonly seen on a daily basis in our clinic. The best class in Nitia’s opinion was the dissection of a pig’s eyeball, which was very close to the anatomy of a human eyeball.
Jermanie turned 22 while in Las Vegas and celebrated her birthday while gambling. She won $55, she said with a smile. Because classes began promptly at 8 am, partying and Las Vegas shenanigans were kept to minimum.
Jeanna, Becca and Jermanie had dinner at the restaurant Margaritaville, where the wait staff were walking on stilts and did a performance to the namesake song by Jimmy Buffet.
