Intraocular Larvae

Case presentation

The Patient is a 65 year old female who was followed for 2 months with a monocular follicular conjunctivitis. During a follow-up visit with her ophthalmologist, a worm was noted in the conjunctiva.

Examination here at the Retina and Vitreous Center 4 hours later revealed these intraocular findings. The visual acuity is 20/25. Note intraocular worm and chorioretinal scarring.

The patient gives a history of a fly getting stuck in her eye while gardening that she had difficulty removing approximately 2-3 weeks prior to her onset of the follicular conjunctivitis. There is no significant history of international travel.
